"PRIVATE STORY LIKES" ARE NOW AVAILABLE ON INSTAGRAM

Instagram announced on Monday, February 14th, that private story likes will be available.

The new feature enhances the social networking app's engagement options for friends, family,  and others. Users can utilize private story likes to provide easy heart interactions without having to send  direct messages.

Furthermore, the function does not provide a count, and the receiver can see likes on their  Instagram Stories view sheet. Instagram built the new feature to help people respond to social media in  a more brief and structured manner.

This will, of course, set Stories apart from ordinary Instagram posts, which will retain public like counts. Users will be able to show support and gratitude for content published on Instagram Stories in a  more convenient and enjoyable way with the new feature.

"The objective here is to make sure that people can show more support for each other, but also to  tidy up DMs a little bit," says Adam Mosseri, Instagram's CEO, in a video presentation for the new feature.  Instagram wants the DM space to be more conversation-focused in the future.

Mosseri indicated in December of last year that Instagram would focus on messaging and increase  work on controls to promote transparency, as well as announcing the company's broad aims for 2022.

HOW TO USE “PRIVATE STORY LIKES”?

Between the sent message and the paper airplane icon on Instagram stories, users will notice a  heart icon. To utilize the feature, simply tap the heart-shaped button, and you'll be added to a private list  of people who Liked the Story that only the person who submitted the Story may see.

HOW DOES “PRIVATE STORY LIKES” WORK?

So, what exactly are Story Likes and how do they work? It's quite straightforward. Unlike the short  story replies available on Instagram, the private story likes will not appear in the author's DM section.  Authors will be able to see the likes in their story's viewer sheet instead. Go to the viewer sheet for that  post by tapping on the view count in the lower left-hand corner of your screen to check who enjoyed your  own Story. The users who gave you a Story Like will be marked with a heart emoji on that page.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO HAVE "PRIVATE STORY LIKES?"

Quick Reactions in Stories will not be affected by the inclusion of Story Likes, so you may still touch  on the emoji reactions that will appear in that person's DMs. Story replies were previously provided to  the individual who shared the story as direct messages. The quantity of reactions in the form of DMs can  be difficult to manage for someone with a few thousand followers, and this appears to be one of the  difficulties addressed by the new function.

The functionality is consistent with Instagram's fundamental interaction paradigm, which requires  users to like a post by double-tapping or touching the heart button below it. Instagram is known for  introducing modest but useful features like these on a regular basis. Story likes aren't going to affect the  way you use Instagram in any significant way, but they're a welcome addition nonetheless. Happy Hearts!
