4 Ways Instagram’s Pinned Comments Can Help Your Brand Grow
Instagram has officially rolled out pinned comments, a feature beta-tested in May to a select handful of users. Launched July 7th on Twitter, this feature is the platform’s bid at fighting negative interactions such as bullying and misinformation.
Fresh out of Beta
The Pin Comment feature, already present in some social media platforms such as Facebook and Youtube, allows you to choose up to three comments to pin the top of your comment threads.
Although you won’t be able to pin your own comment, you’ll have the advantage of implementing a more positive strategy in moderating your account by letting you focus more on positive reviews and conversation-starters and less on spam comments and trolls.
4 Ways to Leverage Instagram’s Pinned Comments for Your Business
1. Play up positive product reviews
One survey shows that 91% of consumers are more likely to purchase a product based on positive reviews. Another study from Forbes revealed that 71% of consumers who like a brand recommend it to their family and friends.
Don’t let those accolades for your products be buried under a barrage of other comments. Pin the best ones straight to the top and let your audience hear from people who use and love your brand.
This will help build reliability and credibility for your brand. It’s also a great way to collect feedback to give you a deeper understanding of your audience and help you develop a better content strategy accordingly.
2. Answer FAQs
Save time and energy, and maybe even avoid a lot of stress by pinning frequently asked questions that you’ve already responded to. Not only does this make your responses more visible, but it’s also an excellent way to prevent misinformation. It also keeps you from writing the same response over and over again.
Another plus in pinning FAQs is that it gives you insight into what’s important to your audience and allows you to pinpoint what to focus on in your next post. Instant caption ideas! Two birds in one stone.
3. Highlight Conversation-Starters
One of the most known ways to boost the engagement of your posts organically is by stimulating conversations.
Encourage conversations and grow your community by using Instagram’s pin comment feature to underscore thought-provoking comments from your fans or pinpoint comments that encourage them to respond.
Some examples can be funny anecdotes, relatable quotes, daily-life experiences, or even heavy mental health and body positivity issues.
Doing so gives your audience the feeling that not only are they communicating with you - they’re also connected to a bigger community. Relatable comments give your audience the feeling that they are not alone and that they belong, and this is a feeling that will keep them coming back for more.
4. Take A Stand
Black Lives Matter. Sexual and reproductive rights. Health. Politics. This year saw a huge re-emergence of social movements in both social media and the offline world, and brands responded accordingly.
For example, in the case of Black Lives matter, many brands, influencers, and content-creators expressed their sentiments and called for change in support of the movement. Netizens responded to such posts in droves, and countless relevant points were raised.
How do you take advantage of this? By standing up for your beliefs. Humanize your brand and increase your opportunities to be closer to your audience by pinning a tough question or two.
Answer as honestly and transparently as possible. Use the chance to educate your audience by sharing relevant information along with your point of view.
How does it work?
How to pin comments:
Pick a comment that you want to pin.
Swipe left on iOs or tap on the comment if you’re using an Android device. Some users report that you have to do so slowly, as swiping too fast deletes the comment instead.
A new pushpin icon plus options for reporting, deleting, and replying will appear.
Tap the pushpin icon.
And there you go! Comment pinned, no sweat.
Note:
You cannot pin your own comment.
You can only pin up to three comments - be wise in choosing the comments that best fit your social media strategy
The last comment you pinned will move to the top of the thread. To navigate this and set whatever comment you want to be first, you can unpin and repin at will.
The user will get a notification once you pin their comment, similar to when they’re tagged or mentioned.
To recap, Instagram’s pin comment feature is a useful moderation tool to tackle misinformation, bullying, and other offensive interactions and highlight positive responses to your brand and overall message.

Keeping your account active is very important if you want your profile to show up more on your connections’ timelines. This means you are expected to engage with your connections by liking, commenting, and sharing posts daily. However, according to LinkedIn, creating more valuable content that stands out is more important than frequently posting invaluable content regularly.
